Ukrainian diplomat, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (December 2007 – March 2009). Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine.

Born on April 1, 1956, in Kyiv.

In 1978, graduated Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University, passed master degree in international relations, researcher-translator from German. Candidate of Historical Sciences speaks German and English.

Married, has three children.

Career

Works at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1978.

1978–1980 — attaché of the Press department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

1980–1981 — 3rd secretary of the Press department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

1981–1983 — military service at the Armed forces of the USSR.

1983–1985 —3rd secretary of the Press department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

1985–1988 — 2-й secretary of the Press department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

1988–1991 — 1-й secretary of the Chief advisor department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

June – July 1991 – advisor to the Chief advisor department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

July 1991 – March 1992 – advisor for political analysis and coordination of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

1992–1993 — advisor to the Embassy of Ukraine to the Federal Republic of Germany.

1993–1994 — advisor to the Embassy of Ukraine to the Austrian Republic.

1994–1996 — advisor to the Embassy of Ukraine to the Federal Republic of Germany.

1996–1999 — Head of the Foreign policy Department, Head of Major Department of foreign-policy activity at the Presidential Administration of Ukraine.

1999–2004 — Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Austrian Republic and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to international organizations in Vienna.

2004–2005 — Ambassador at large of the Department of Euro Atlantic cooperation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

2005 — December 2007 — First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
